George Kambosos Jr Loses It and Calls Devin Haney a Rat

George Kambosos and Devin Haney 1st Press Conference for Showdown on June 4th

Top Rank hosted the first press conference for the fight on June 4th between George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) and Devin Haney (27-0, 15 KOs). They will face off in Marvel Stadium located in Melbourne Australia to fight for the Undisputed Lightweight Championship.

Kambosos Gets Personal and Calls Devin Haney a Rat and an Informant

Top Rank released the first press conference leading up to the big showdown that everyone is looking forward to because this fight is for all the belts in the lightweight division! The communication between Haney and Kambosos has been respectful and professional up until this press conference.

Upon his first opening statements, Kambosos jumps straight into personal attacks instead of focusing on boxing by trying to paint Devin Haney out to be an "informant" and a "rat." He starts off by saying the following:

know how they let this guy into the country to be honest I don't think they let informants into the country. This guy is an informant! This guy is a rat!" ~ Kambosos

However, as Kambosos goes on to explain why he believes Haney is a rat, it just makes him look bad, especially if you keep reading. This comment may seem like Kambosos is trying to make a "joke" or talk trash but this comment is a personal dig at how George views Haney and a dig at Haney's father, Bill Haney, who was not allowed to enter the country due to Australia's strict laws regarding criminal records. He also called Devin a "fake gangster" for simply how he was dressed, which is discriminatory and not how champions conduct themselves.

In an interview that Devin Haney had with K.O. Artist Sports, Haney is on record publicly stating that he did not feel that Teofimo Lopez was focused and he gave Kambosos credit for being more focused leading up to the fight. To see that interview, watch it below:

After watching the clip, you will see that Kambosos's comments are not only unprofessional, but they are flat out rooted in manipulation and lies. George's claim that Devin Haney is a rat makes Kambosos look more like a rat. He even showed up to the press conference looking like the rat from "The Great Mouse Detective."

Bob Arum Calls George Kambosos Out for His Antics

Bob Arum is referred to as the "Bob Father" for the sport of boxing and he was recently interviewed by Fight Hub TV regarding this upcoming fight and even Bob, calls out George Kambosos for the ridiculous claims he is making by stating the following:

It's just trying to get into his head. I mean you know what are we are the CIA with informants and so forth? Even if we assume that Haney was tipping off Kambosos about certain problems that Lopez was having...those weren't secret.

Devin Haney easily deflects these personal attacks by asking Kambosos if he knows what the definition of a rat is? Well just in case you did not know the definition, we looked it up for you.

Is Devin Haney a Rat According To Merriam Webster's Dictionary?

According to Merriam Webster's dictionary, the definition of a rat when used as a noun is as follows,

"one who betrays or deserts friends or associates."

Based on this definition alone, the answer is clearly no! Teofimo Lopez was never Devin Haney's friend or associate...he was simply an adversary in the sport of boxing. Kambosos is trying to take this false moral high ground that "Haney betrayed his fellow countrymen," but Teofimo is on record stating that he would have never fought Devin Haney or given him a chance to fight for the belts in the following clip from FightHype.com

I find it very ironic that George is taking this stance because he is also on camera stating the following:

He previously went from saying the following:

“Look, I’ve been a contender on the rise for a long time before I won these titles. So, I’ve been looking at all these guys. I’ve got notes on all these guys. I know how to beat all these guys and I will continue to beat all of them – one by one, round by round, one by one. So, look, I’m not gonna disrespect Devin Haney. He’s a good boxer. But he ain’t elite, and he will find that out the hard way.” ~ Kambosos

Now he is calling Devin Haney an informant, a snitch, and a fake gangster, but we all have recently seen what happens when a person does a ton of trash talk before a major fight.

Now we are not saying that Kambosos will make the same mistakes that Rolly made against Gervonta "Tank" Davis, but if he does, he will become the next meme in boxing!

Prediction for Devin Haney vs George Kambosos

My prediction for the fight is that Devin Haney will outbox George Kambosos and make George regret saying everything that he has because he is now acting like Teofimo was before Teo lost to George. Haney's last opponent Jojo Diaz stated in a FightHype Interview that "Devin will walk through Kambosos."
